On October 22, 2024, Thammasat University’s College of Interdisciplinary Studies held an academic workshop titled “Regional Economic Cooperation and Socio-Cultural Transformation: The Future of China-Thailand Connectivity” at its Lampang Campus. The workshop brought together leading scholars from a range of disciplines, including linguistics, arts, management, and international relations, to discuss the dynamic intersections of economics, society, and culture across the region.

The event featured keynote speaker Professor Dong Hongjie from Xi’an University, China, who provided a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in Chinese Studies under the Chinese Ministry of Education’s “New Sinology” initiative. Professor Dong highlighted China and Thailand’s ongoing connectivity efforts in regional economic cooperation and explored how these linkages are driving significant social and cultural shifts in both nations.

Experts from both countries presented perspectives rooted in their fields, contributing to a lively discussion on the opportunities and challenges for China-Thailand cooperation in the coming years. The workshop concluded with remarks by Associate Professor Dr. Saifon Su-indramedhi, Dean of Thammasat’s College of Interdisciplinary Studies, who emphasized that the workshop marks a key academic milestone in celebrating the university’s 90th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the College of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Dr. Saifon highlighted that the event not only fostered stronger ties among cross-disciplinary scholars but also established a robust foundation for future international academic collaboration.
