As Southeast Asia confronts intensifying climate pressures, digital transformation, and evolving governance challenges, universities are increasingly expected to serve as platforms for policy innovation and global academic collaboration. Against this backdrop, the College of Interdisciplinary Studies, Thammasat University convened the CISTU International Seminar and Workshop 2026 under the theme “Human Security and Sustainable Development.”
Distinguished Keynote and Special Addresses on Sustainable Development
The seminar featured a keynote address by Niamh Collier-Smith, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Thailand. Her remarks situated human security within the broader Sustainable Development Goals framework, highlighting the need for data-driven, cross-sector solutions in emerging economies.
A special address was delivered by Asst. Prof. Nitinant Wisaweisuan, Ph.D., Faculty of Economics at Thammasat University and CISTU Committee Member, who emphasized the importance of integrating economic resilience, policy research, and interdisciplinary education to address structural transformation across Southeast Asia.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Action
The afternoon parallel panel sessions further translated these themes into focused research dialogue:
Environmental Sustainability
Digital Innovation, Management, and Local Economy
Policy, Democracy, and Social Resilience
Each panel convened CISTU faculty and international researchers to identify shared research agendas, potential co-authored publications, and future mobility initiatives. The structure reinforced the College’s approach to Interdisciplinary Studies in Southeast Asia—bridging environmental science, digital governance, economic systems, and social policy within a unified academic framework.
Through initiatives such as the CISTU International Seminar and Workshop 2026, the College of Interdisciplinary Studies, Thammasat University reinforces its identity as an interdisciplinary, internationally engaged institution embedded in Southeast Asia yet globally connected.
